2007 SCT Fellow: Barry Davis
Barry Davis has been an intellectual and managerial leader of a Coordinating Center of international influence, working on such trials as the Beta-Blocker Heart Attack Trial, the Survival and Ventricular Enlargement Trial, the Systolic Hypertension in the Elderly Program, and the Antihypertensive & Lipid Lowering Treatment to Prevent Heart Attacks Trial, or ALLHAT. ALLHAT, the results of which are still being analyzed, was the largest randomized trial in hypertension and its success is a tribute to his leadership. Earlier in his career as a physician/statistician, he also did a great deal of the critical work evaluating the characteristics of the early stopping of clinical trials using conditional power criteria. He has been a member of DSMBs and advisory boards for many government- and industry-sponsored trials, and has been a member of numerous SCT Committees (including serving 4 times on the program committee for meetings, once even chairing the committee) and he is former President of the Society.
