2007 SCT Fellow: Larry Friedman

Larry Friedman is a dedicated public servant, a leader in trial administration and conduct. Working in various capacities at NHLBI, he rose from Medical Officer to Director of the Division of Epidemiology and Clinical Applications, working on or overseeing many seminal trials during his tenure there. The early trials he worked on included, but are not limited to, the Coronary Drug Project, the Beta-Blocker Heart Attack Trial, and the Cardiac Arrhythmia Suppression Trial. He continues to be a valued collaborator and researcher; a sought-after consultant in the areas of trial design, conduct, and ethics; and is an accomplished educator and mentor. He is also a co-author of the first textbook on trial methodology, which is still, in its 3rd edition, one of the most popular. One of the first members of the Society and a very active supporter of all its activities, past SCT board member and former President of the Society.
